About PatPDFs

PatPDFs is a free web tool from Patent Toolkit for downloading official U.S. patent and pre-grant publication PDFs in bulk. Paste the numbers and get the files; there is nothing to install and no account to create.

Where the documents come from

Every PDF is the USPTO's own published file, served from our cache of the USPTO's publication servers. The documents are unaltered and authentic, identical to what the USPTO publishes, delivered faster and in one batch.

What PatPDFs does not do

It takes US patent and publication numbers only, and it returns each PDF as published. Searchable text, Word files, foreign documents, application numbers and file histories are the desktop application's job: Patent Toolkit, for macOS and Windows, which is free to start.

Questions

Which numbers does it accept?

US utility, design, plant and reissue patents, statutory invention registrations, and pre-grant publications, in the USPTO's own number formats. The Examples link on the home page shows one of each, and the USPTO's guides cover patent numbers and publication numbers.

Can I enter a US application number?

Not here. Patent Toolkit's Bulk Downloader takes US application numbers from 2001 on, alongside patent and publication numbers.

Can I download foreign documents?

Not here. Patent Toolkit fetches EP, WO, JP, CN, KR and other publications, with available English text for foreign references.

Are the PDFs searchable?

PatPDFs returns each PDF as the USPTO publishes it. Patent Toolkit adds an OCR text layer on your own computer, unlimited and without signing in.

Is there a limit?

There is no account and no quota for ordinary use. Large batches, or many downloads from one network within an hour, are asked to pass a Cloudflare Turnstile check, which usually completes on its own. What is kept, and for how long, is in section 9 of the Privacy Statement.
